The Committee took oral evidence from the Deputy Minister for Justice, Hugh Henry and the Family Law (Scotland) Bill team on 8 June 2005. The Committee questioned the lack of statistics and information available on court figures relating to contact cases in Scottish courts.
Key issues discussed were:
- enforcement of contact orders
- lack of statistical and other information from courts relating to contact with children
- cohabitants rights and why they are restricted to genetic children
- domestic violence - whether the amendments to interdicts makes the law to complicated
The full transcript of the meeting is available on the Scottish Parliament website, in the Justice 1 Committee's Official Report 08/06/05.
