Consultation on the Education (ASL) (Scotland) Act 2004 Draft Code of Practice, 29/11/04 [S]
The Scottish Executive Education Department has issued the Draft Code of Practice in relation to the Education (Additional Support for Learning), (ASL), (Scotland) Act 2004 for consultation. The draft Code of Practice aims to offer advice and guidance to those statutory organisations which will have duties under the Act. This is your opportunity to suggest improvements on content and layout and express views on the draft Code before it is published in 2005.
Also issued for consultation are related policy papers on dispute resolution, publication of information and other appropriate agencies to help in exercise of any function under the Act; and draft Regulations on Co-ordinated Support Plans and Changes in School Education.
Consultation period: 29/11/04 to 25/02/05
The consultation pack includes five documents for comment:
- The draft Code of Practice
- Policy paper on other appropriate agencies to help in exercise of any function under the Act
- The Education (Co-ordinated Support Plan) (Scotland) Regulations 2005 (draft)
- The Additional Support for Learning (Changes in School Education) (Scotland) Regulations 2005 (draft)
- Policy papers on resolution of disagreements between parents and schools or education authorities
- Policy paper on publication of information by the education authority
Sections of the draft Code will be developed further in the light of responses to consultation on the associated draft Regulations and Policy Papers in this pack, for example the section on dispute resolution.
The final version of the Code will include a glossary with definitions of terms used in the Act and elsewhere, as well as a resources section referring to other sources of information, including the Act and associated Regulations.
Following consultation, a revised version of the draft Code and Regulations will be presented to the Scottish Parliament for scrutiny.
Questions/discussion pointsThe Executive has outlined some specific questions on key issues however comments are welcomed on any issues you would like to raise.
