Education Committee considers Scottish Executive response to additional support for learning code of practice, 08/09/05 [S]

During their meeting on 8 September 2005 the Education Committee considered the Scottish Executive's response to the Committee's report on the additional support for learning code of practice.

Committee members were generally satisfied with the Executive's response to their report on the code. However, there was still a concern with personal learning plans and individualised educational programmes and how they would be implemented under the draft code. The Committee also raised a concern over resource issues with regards to placing requests and assessment.

In its report on the code the Committee asked for the Executive to confirm that the code will be universally available free of charge. The Executive replied that it is being widely distributed free of charge to schools, local authorities, NHS Boards and agencies and to a range of voluntary organisations. The final version will be widely disseminated and available free of charge from Enquire.

The Committee also asked the Executive about dispute resolution and received the response that procedures for dealing with request for matters relating to dispute resolution will be specified in regulations which will be laid before the Parliament in September.

The Committee had encouraged the Executive to ensure that the draft guidance on an integrated assessment framework is available soon. The Executive replied that draft guidance on this has been released for consultation as part of the document Getting it right for every child: proposals for action.

Full details of the Executive's response and the Committee's discussion of this response can be read in the Education Committee's Official Report 8 September 2005.
