Child Poverty Bill, 25/01/10 {E/NI/S/W]

The Third Committee Day in the House of Lords for the Child Poverty Bill took place on 25 January 2010.

Issues debated included:

  • Minimum income standards including whether the UK child poverty strategy should aim to ensure households with children have the minimum incomes necessary to sustain their well-being.
  • The relationship between child poverty and child well-being including whether the strategy should aim to ensure that the UK is in the upper half of the UNICEF tables measuring child-well-being in OECD countries.
  • The definition of socio-economic disadvantage and whether it should include only financial considerations.
